Architects’ Journeys: Dark Architects in Athens October 14 2014
Big Olive had the honor of staging a three-day study trip for the Dark Architects AS, a prominent architecture, urbanism and landscape firm based in Oslo, Norway. The trip took place from October 9 to October 11 in the central districts and the wider metropolitan area of the city.
In an attempt to map the tendencies emerging from a crisis-bashed economy, the Masonry 2013-awarded group explored both grand scale and lesser known projects in residential, commercial and under-transition areas of Athens. In that perspective our team organized and delivered a series of visits, talks, lectures and events in collaboration with leading foundations, establishments and firms in Greece, namely the Onassis Foundation / Rethink Athens project and cultural center, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the Olympic Athletic Center “Spiros Louis”, the Klab Architects, the TENSE architecture network and the ONE Athens project.
Our guests had also the chance to unveil the Athenian “Path to Modernity“, a retrospective on the local adaptation of the modernist movement and the International style as expressed through the works of the leading Greek architects D. Pikionis, P. Michaelides & T. Valentis, K. Panayotakos, A. Patsouris and D. & S. Antonakakis (Atelier66) among others.
