Walking in Athens with Nikos Vatopoulos

Walk Athens with a true Atheneographer. Nikos Vatopoulos, Chief Editor of Culture for Kathimerini newspaper, becomes the observer and mediator of astiko, the culture of city dwellers that developed in Athens in the 20th century. The routes presented originate from Vatopoulos‘s column Ptyches (folds) in the Sunday edition of Kathimerini. From Makrygianni to Patissia, the journalist explores the neighborhood and its various typologies, strolling through the streets that “emanate this old Athenian emotion”. Historical facts, architectural motifs, anecdotal narratives and personal reflections come together to produce a “little elegy on the modern civilisation that Athens generated and which still appears today, even if it seems uninvited, marginalised and ignored”.
